OBJECTIVE


The main aim of the enactment is to make provisions for statutory fixation of minimum rates of wages in scheduled employment wherein labour is not organised and sweated labour is most prevalent.

PS&A deals with the following provisions of the Minimum Wages Act 1948

Composition of committees etc.-Correction of errors.-Central Advisory Board.-Advisory Board-.Wages in kind.-payment of minimum rate of wages.-Advisory committees and sub-committees [Repealed by the Minimum Wages (Amendment) Act 1957].-Procedure for fixing and revising minimum wages.-Minimum rate of wages.-Fixing of minimum rates of wages.-Fixing hours for normal working day etc.-Overtime .-Wages of worker who works for less than normal working day.-Wages for two or more classes of work.-Minimum time rate wages for piece work.-Maintenance of registers and records.-Inspectors.-Claim.-Single application in respect of a number of employees.-Validation of fixation of certain minimum rates of wages .-Rules made by Central Government to be laid before Parliament.-Power of appropriate government to make rules.-Power of Central Government to make rules.-Power of State Government to add to Schedule.-Power of Central Government to give directions.-Exemption and exceptions.-Contracting out.-Bar of suits.-Exemption of employer from liability in certain cases.-Application of Payment of Wages Act 1936 to scheduled employments.-Protection against attachment of assets of employer with government.-Payment of undisbursed amounts due to employees.-Offences by companies.-Cognizance of offences.-General provision for punishment of other offences.-Penalties for certain offences.
