Domestic violence Act has come into force with objective of expeditious disposal of the claim of women who are victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence complaint is filed in the Court of Magistrate who is empowered to pass exparte orders. Domestic violence has come in to force with objective of providing economic justice and independence to women victim of domestic violence.

(Ps&A) deals with the following provisions of the DV. Act :

Information to Protection Officer and exclusion of liability of informant, Duties of police officers, service providers and Magistrate, Duties of shelter homes, Duties of medical facilities, Appointment of Protection Officers, Duties and functions of Protection Officers, Service providers, Duties of Government, Application to Magistrate, Service of notice, Counseling, Proceedings to be held in camera, Right to reside in a shared household, Protection, orders, Residence orders, Monetary reliefs, Custody orders, Compensation orders, Power to grant interim and ex parte orders, Court to give copies of order free of cost, Duration and alteration of orders, Relief in other suits and legal proceedings, Jurisdiction, Procedure Appeal. Penalty for breach of protection order by respondent, Cognizance and proof, Cognizance of offence committed by Protection Officer, Protection of action taken in good faith. Act not in derogation of any other law, Power of Central Government to make rules.
